Betamethasone

Betamethasone is a cream or lotion that contains the active ingredient betamethasone, which is a type of medicine known as a corticosteroid (adrenal cortex hormone). Corticosteroids are applied topically to reduce inflammation. Betamethasone helps to relieve symptoms such as scaling, itching, redness and swelling of the skin.

Betamethasone is used to treat skin conditions that involve symptoms such as swelling, redness, itching and scaling. It is prescribed by doctors to treat eczema, psoriasis and other skin diseases. Betamethasone reduces inflammation and calms the skin. As a result, itching, scaling and other symptoms are reduced and the skin feels less dry and more pliable.

Betamethasone should be applied thinly to the affected areas, but not too thinly. Please refer to the package leaflet for precise dosage instructions. Because Betamethasone contains hormones, you should not exceed a weekly dose of 30 to 60 grams. This product is also not suitable for long-term use. Wash your hands immediately after using Betamethasone and do not apply near the eyes.

Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is:

• Apply twice daily to the affected areas. As the skin improves, switch to one daily dose.

The duration of the treatment is decided by your doctor.

Betamethasone may have side effects, although not everyone gets them. The most commonly reported side effects include:

• Thinning of the treated skin.
• Adverse effects on adrenal cortex. This is more common in long-term use and in children.
• Repeated contact may result in glaucoma and cataract. It is therefore important to avoid eye contact with this product.

Never use Betamethasone without consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Betamethasone is safe to use in most cases, but should be wiped off thoroughly prior to nursing if it is being applied to the nipple area.

This product does not affect your ability to drive safely.

There are no known interactions between alcohol or specific foods and Betamethasone.
